For workout 2, we have something that you guys will undoubtedly have fun with!

"Bear Trap"

In two minutes do reps of for total pounds moved:
You choose the weight and multiply it by total reps for total score.
1 deadlift
1 clean
1 front squat
1 push press
(back rack)
1 back squat
1 back rack press.
Each round is 6 reps, score is total reps multiplied by the weight(including bar) in pounds.

Please post the weight, and rounds and number of reps in the final round to the workout notes field when you save your score.

Film your weights at the start please

We think this workout will be super fun as you guys can play with the loads as many times as you like to figure out whats the best strategy to get the highest score!  Please watch the full Movement Standards video and read the full workout description as whats on this blog entry is just a summary.

And lastly I would like to thank Ashleigh Moe for helping us put together out standards video.

So if someone misses/ forgets to do the dead lift on a round or two. I.E. Just goes straight into the clean. Can these rounds still be counted as 5 reps?? Or does the round not count at all??

I have never heard of adding the clips as part of the total weight but saw it on a video. Really? Is this common?

I’ve watched a few videos and most are a direct side shot – great to see squat depth but impossible to see lockout on the jerks. I suggest an angled video so you can see both? Seems like some no votes are because of lack of control at the top…

A press that starts our racked behind the neck.

What’s a “back rack press”?

2011_hopper_challenge

mike, you know I had a youtube video for workout 1 and sent you it by email. i had no internet access on Sunday and now I see that you can upload a youtube video which was not an option before. I now cant do it. Can you help me out with this since I sent you the youtube video last week and timely submitted my score. Thanks. This week shouldnt be a problem

Mike Cook… yes.. Overhead Anyhow… as long as you hit full extensions with the legs and arms.

Is split jerk ok?

Nick_-_slide

@ Mike Porter – My logic for the two bars would be doing a heavier deadlift for your first rep, then doing the complex with a lower weight. That’s the best I can think of.

When are the people who did not upload a video or did not meet the standards gonna get taken out of the standings. I know im not near the top but would still like to see an accurate judgement of where i stand. Thanks for all you do!

Larry_jump_2

So Mike, can you use 3 bars??? Cara, Im just kidding. Good luck to all. Everyone just cares enough to get it right.

Mike_hat Fran_overlay

Ryan,
Yes Jerks are OK.. It is basicaly “Overhead Anyhow” this is how they usually do Games overhead movements, as its hard to judge did somebody double dip for the Jerk. We want lock out at top and legs locked out at top too.

Kb_avatar_small

So I think that is big. A jerk is very different than a press. Just to be clear we can jerk from the back rack?

Mike_hat Gym_rat_overlay

Cara, No. You are the second person to ask that. Not sure what good two bars would do here. Its all one weight.

Kb_avatar_small

is it ok to use two bars?

Mike_hat King_overlay

There are 6 reps per round. You can complete any number of the movements within a round. So yes, if you fail on the back press and run out of time thats 5 reps counted that last round.

NOW.. if you fail you can re-set via the starting position for that movement and do that movement again. So in the case of the back rack press, if you fail and still have time, you may reset on the back rack and try to back press again.

Kb_avatar_small

That is a great question Roger. So Mike…if you fail on your press from the back squat, does that void the 5 previous movements in that round?

Mike_hat Gym_rat_overlay

Ken… thats fine… as long as you totally hit the top and you lock your knees out.

Kb_avatar_small

what if the presses start to look more like jerks. in other words, will it be a no rep if there is a double knee bend?

Mike – If you fail to meet the standard in any one portion of the Bear Trap (i.e. not reaching full lock out or full depth on a squat) does the rest of the work done to standard count. Or do all 6 lifts have to be legit for any of the work to count.

Mike_hat King_overlay

Ryan, no. One weight.. you pick that weight, then do the rounds at that weight.. multiply all reps by weight for winning score.

Is multiple bars an option ( like a separate bar for deadlifts) ?
